Book onto a free trial class at either Cheam, Redhill or Dorking by clicking here or on the button above. Fill in the form and you will receive a confirmation email for your class.
For your first class you’ll want to wear comfortable clothes like a T-shirt and lose fitting trousers or shorts. Bring a bottle of water and most importantly an open mind, you’ll love it!
A class will generally begin with a warm up with some cardio, stretches and drills (doing certain moves up and down the hall). Then we might move onto patterns and skills, don’t worry you’ll be guided through the whole thing.
Courtesy is a central tenet of Taekwondo. We respect every instructor and student. To show respect we will bow when entering the class, although this won’t be expected at your first class. We also refer to our senior instructor as Master Dennis. Don’t worry you’ll get used to it!
Whatever your fitness level you are welcome at our classes. Whether you’re a returning student or you are getting into fitness our team will support your goals and progress. If you have any concerns or our instructors should be aware of anything, just let us know and we can work with you so you get the most out of classes.
If you love your first class (and we know you will), signing up is easy. Let Master Dennis know at the class or send us an email on tkdselfdefencesurrey@gmail.com and we can get all the admin done so you can start regular classes straight away.
Absolutely — our classes are open and welcoming to complete beginners. You don’t need any prior experience, and our instructors will guide you step by step to help you build confidence, fitness, and skills at your own pace.
Not at all — you don’t need to be super fit to get started. Our classes are designed to help you improve your fitness gradually, whatever your current level, and our instructors will support you as you build strength, flexibility, and stamina over time.
We believe Taekwondo should be accessible to everyone. If you have a disability, we’ll work with you to adapt training where needed, so you can take part safely, comfortably, and at your own pace. Email us on tkdselfdefencesurrey@gmail.com and we can talk it through with you.
To start with, you don’t need to buy anything — just wear comfortable clothes and bring a bottle of water. If you decide to continue, you will need a uniform and in time some basic equipment like a gum shield, gloves and foot guards.
Yes, you’re welcome to attend more than one class each week — many of our members do! If we run sessions in different locations, you’re free to mix and match, depending on what suits your schedule best.
The class cost will depend on whether you’re attending one class or more per week, and if you choose to pay monthly or pay-as-you-go. You can find all our class costs on the Classes page.
